Common Questions
Do you work with clients who are facing issues not described in your list of specialties?
Absolutely. Life can feel undoable in so many different ways, it is impossible to catalog how we struggle as humans. If you have an issue different than those you see on my website, call for a 15-minute consultation and let’s talk about it. If I’m not the right therapist for you, I will refer you to someone who may be more appropriate and able to help.
Can you tell me more about the free consultation call?
Research has consistently shown that the most pivotal change agent in counseling is the therapeutic relationship between the client and the therapist. For this reason, it’s important that you and I will be able to connect and develop a trusting bond. This conversation will allow you to know whether you feel comfortable with me we and we are a good fit, personality-wise. Our chat will also allow me to get to know you a bit, so that I am able to determine that I am able to meet your needs and am the right therapist for you.
What is your intake process?
Upon our initial communication, I will ask for your email address and send to a link to my online portal through Simple Practice, my practice management software, so that you are able to complete the intake paperwork prior to our first appointment. You will input basic demographic information and personal history, and have an opportunity to review my business policies and procedures, as well as the informed consent and confidentiality agreements. Your credit card information will be kept securely on file.
Why are you co-located with a company called, Smarter Divorce Solutions? I don’t want a divorce!
Really good question, but not to worry. While helping people through divorce is one of my specialties, it is not my only therapeutic focus. In addition to assisting individuals and couples to negotiate the emotionality around this challenging process, I partner with my colleagues to offer divorcing couples less adversarial alternatives to litigation, including mediation and collaborative divorce. Ending one’s marriage can be traumatic, the legal process used to accomplish the dissolution should not be.
Can therapy really help me?
Everyone can benefit from time and effort directed toward living their best life. We develop patterns as humans, cognitively, affectively and behaviorally, that don’t serve us. These patterns, which are often out of our awareness, lead to individual emotional struggles and negative relationship dynamics. Gaining insight regarding what’s working for you and what is not, allows you to be intentional in making necessary changes in your response to the world. Everyone should be familiar with his or her guiding narrative (your “story”) and typical response pattern, so that you can step back from automatic reactions and change your mindset and interpersonal dynamics. In short, yes, whether you are struggling significantly or just mildly dissatisfied in your life, an objective, trained perspective, along with a safe space to express your true self, can provide the shift you need to reach your potential.
What is therapy like?
Therapy is time you set aside just for you, to step back, take a breath, recalibrate your compass and recommit to your life direction. Life can be difficult and confusing, and challenges can seem insurmountable when we are overwhelmed. Therapy provides a safe, compassionate, nonjudgmental space for you to examine your triggers, repetitive patterns and coping mechanisms. It is a time for you to be wholly yourself with no pretense. It can be a serious endeavor, but clients are usually surprised by how often we laugh and find humor in the difficult moments. Within the bounds of professional guidance, therapy is what you make it and what you need it to be.
Do you offer teletherapy?
Yes, I offer a streamlined and secure process for teletherapy so that I am able to meet with you by video conference in the comfort of your own home. In this unprecedented period of global uncertainty, clients are understandably hesitant to venture out, yet are struggling with overwhelming anxiety and other mental health concerns. Teletherapy provides a platform for you to get the help you need while avoiding the increased stress and time involved with travel. It also allows those outside the metropolitan Phoenix area (but within the state of Arizona) to conveniently access my services.
What is your cancellation policy?
I understand that emergencies may arise. However, as much as I would love to be flexible every time something comes up, that would make my practice unsustainable. The session time we set aside is committed to you. For this reason, sessions cancelled within 48 hours of your appointment time will be charged.
